Receiving Faxes Online – Advantages, Disadvantages
Consider for a moment what happens when you are receiving a fax in the traditional fashion. Understanding how you receive faxes traditionally, then comparing this to how you receive faxes with an online fax service will help in understanding the advantages and disadvantages associated with the two alternatives. It will also help you in making the right decision about whether or not to switch to online fax services.
Traditional faxing methods generally require the use of a machine. You load paper into the machine that you want to send to someone else using the fax. The fax machine reads the papers that you load into it, and converts them to a signal, which is sent to a fax machine in the recipient’s office, and converted back to page format. The result is a quick, easy, and compared to courier, a relatively cheap method of sending information from one place to another.
Unlike the traditional faxes, online faxing does not require a fax machine. This means that you do not load the paper into a machine for conversion and sending. If you, however, have a top quality system, the results are pretty much the same. You can scan a page (which requires a scanner, that some people might not have), and send the page electronically, online. The page is received in the same way as before, by the recipient fax machine. So the major difference is this issue of having to scan it, which some people consider a disadvantage. Online fax systems can usually also send word documents and other digital files directly, without having to print; so this is an advantage to the digital system. Consider the distinction between the two carefully when making your decision, and figure out if the advantages are right for you!
